The
mission of the Hawaii Kai Boat Club Foundation is to support water
programs that encourage fun and safe ocean activities for youth. We
strive to be a leader in the islands for teaching children to sail and
appreciate the ocean that surrounds them. The sailing program offers
classes on the latest one design boats recognized by the International
Sailing Federation. HKBCF supports youth sailors participating in
local, national, and international sailing regattas. HKBCF supports
social networking for all members, and plays an instrumental role in the
future development of the youth sailors. The Hawaii Kai Boat Club is less than a decade old and has quickly grown to become a leader in the islands for teaching keiki (children) to sail and appreciate the ocean. The club is run on an almost completely volunteer basis. The club has also been as frugal as possible, actively pursuing and obtaining corporate donations and grants. We also utilize a small part of a local restaurant/shopping mall on the Hawaii Kai Marina, which is generously shared by the owners. It is truly a grassroots organization which exists to educate our children. | The club has been progressive in building a fleet of O'pen Skiff and RS Feva sailboats, which are economical to maintain and exciting for kids and adults to sail. HKBC has produced both North American and World Champions and has sponsored sending youth sailors to regattas in places including Maui, California, Florida, Bermuda, Australia, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and New Zealand. More importantly, the club provides year round classes on almost every day of the week as well as weekly sailing camps during fall, spring and summer school breaks. The HKBC Foundation wishes to continue to expand Hawaii Kai Boat Club's fleet, and thus its capacity to serve local youth and adults for years to come. |
